Dad subsistance caught this fish in Sitka, Alaska in 1999. It helped feed us and our neighbors for almost a year. Lived here 27 years, 15 since and still haven't seen anything like it.Used a down rigger and a pole. Took hours to fight it to exhaustion and he did it alll by himself. Had to shoot it in the head to kill it humanely and the boat was so small he had to maneuver it onto the bow, tie it up, and haul it home using nothing but ingenuity. Took days to clean and freezer pack all the meat. Was a rough year, and thus hakibut helped feed a lot of people through a tough winter.
